CLOSING ADDRESS BY ŞEYDA-SAN (28.09.2007)

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

It's been really a great honour for me to be here and say a few words on these precious moments. I hereby submit all of my feelings on behalf of all participants coming from 4 beautiful countries. I’m sure all my friends share the same ideas and feelings with me.
When we came to JICA Hyogo 5 weeks ago for this training program, we were really excited. Because we were here, in Kobe in Japan. A country far from our countries and far from our dreams indeed.

As we are officials who have carriers in disaster management, it was also important to observe the miraculous city, called Kobe. We all knew about the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake and its bitter results. We also had heard about how Kobe City overcame this great disaster. When we arrived Kobe, rumours passed away. We realized a reality, because we saw a phoenix. That phoenix is the city we’re living inside it for 5 weeks. If we hadn’t known about the earthquake, we wouldn’t have believed that it happened here. Both the development of the city, its well-planned structure and preparedness of the citizens against a disaster fascinated all the participants.

But there’s also another thing impressed us at all : Japanese kindness and hospitality. From the time we arrived Japan till this very precious moment, in everywhere we go and whoever we met, we experienced this beautiful feeling. Especially in JICA Hyogo, we almost felt at home. All JICA staff from front desk to housekeepers, with their smiling faces and friendly behaviour, were always with us.

Besides all these things I mentioned, I think the most important thing for all of us will be the friendship and cooperation idea that we are carrying with us to our countries both among the participant countries and Japan.

All countries participating this course have bitter experiences about disasters and all countries have the same idea about disaster prevention : Community should be prepared. By the vision we gained from this program, all participants will be able to contribute to disaster plans and try to establish a well-prepared community against disasters in their countries or cities.
Finally, I’d like to give my regards to JICA for arranging such an important training program and giving us the pleasure to be its first participants. Also, I’d like to thank Mr. MORIKAWA on behalf of all JICA Hyogo Staff and for his kind presence to be here with us, Mr. SETO and Kobe City Fire Bureau and especially staff of Suijo Fire Station, our program officer Mr.NAKAMURA and especially Ms. SAKAMOTO for her patience.

I wish success to all my friends coming from Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey in their businesses and happiness for all their lives. Wish to see you all in Turkey :)

Thank you very much for everything.
